CARBON ACCOUNTING AND GHG EMISSIONS MANAGEMENT

(Practical Measurement, Reporting, Verification, and Decarbonization Planning)

Organizations are increasingly expected to accurately measure, manage, and report their

greenhouse gas emissions. A reliable GHG inventory enables an organization to understand its

carbon footprint, identify major emission sources, meet sustainability-reporting requirements, and

establish an appropriate basis for emission-reduction initiatives.

This training provides participants with a practical understanding of carbon accounting based on

the GHG Protocol. Participants will learn how to identify emission sources, establish organizational

and operational boundaries, collect activity data, select appropriate emission factors, calculate

Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, and prepare a basic organizational GHG inventory.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

• Understand the fundamental concepts of carbon accounting and greenhouse gases.

• Understand the principles and structure of a corporate GHG inventory.

• Establish organizational and operational boundaries.

• Identify and classify Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emission sources.

• Identify and collect relevant activity data.

• Select appropriate emission factors and conversion factors.

• Calculate GHG emissions and convert them into CO₂ equivalent.

• Calculate Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

• Identify relevant Scope 3 emission categories.

• Prepare a consolidated organizational GHG inventory.

• Calculate emission intensity and identify emission hotspots.

• Apply carbon-accounting principles through a practical case study
